Garage Floor Epoxy: Why 100%-Solids Epoxy Is the Only Way to Go

From ice storms to hot, muggy summers, Pennsylvania weather is tough on concrete. Many homeowners assume a garage floor coating will fix the problem—but most systems on the market fall short. At East PA Garage Floor Coating, we’re committed to using only the most durable foundation possible: a moisture-mitigating, 100%-solids garage floor epoxy base coat.

Myth #1: All Epoxy Coatings Are Built for the Long Haul

Some garage floor coatings look great on day one but peel within a year. Why? Because many use water- or solvent-based epoxy. These formulas lose volume as they cure—up to 40% can evaporate—leaving you with a thinner layer than expected.

The Truth: GFC’s moisture-mitigating, 100%-solids garage floor epoxy contains no water or solvents. What’s applied is exactly what cures. That means you get a thicker, more resilient base coat that stands up to moisture and wear and tear.

Myth #2: 1-Day Installs Offer Equal Protection

Fast installs are appealing—but most “1-day” coating systems take major shortcuts. They often use a polyurea or polyaspartic as BOTH the base and topcoat. These fast-cure coatings are excellent for use as clear top coats, but lousy base coats. They are simply not spec’d to go direct-to-concrete. Why? Because they cure even faster in the presence of moisture (< 1 hour) and so don’t have time to deeply penetrate and bond with the concrete slab. Thus, the thin, poorly-penetrating base coat is susceptible to moisture-related issues.

The Truth: A lasting garage floor starts with a real foundation. GFC uses a moisture-mitigating, 100%-solids garage floor epoxy as the base coat. It acts as a thick moisture vapor barrier as it slowly and mechanically bonds with concrete providing superior adhesion. We do use polyaspartics too, but as our top coats only. In fact, we apply two 100%-solids polyaspartic topcoats to complete the coating system. They provide extreme UV, stain, impact and chemical resistance—yet its the moisture-mitigating epoxy that provides the solid foundation. (Every coating system is only as strong as its base coat!)

Myth #3: Moisture Issues Can’t Be Prevented

In Pennsylvania, ground moisture and freeze-thaw cycles can ruin garage coatings if they aren’t designed to handle them. Many systems eventually peel, bubble, or delaminate under pressure.

The Truth: East PA GFC’s moisture-mitigating, 100%-solids garage floor epoxy base coat delivers excellent moisture mitigation. Its density and depth block moisture-vapor transmission—making it the ideal choice for Pennsylvania garages that need to withstand year-round weather swings.

Don’t fall for flashy finishes and fast cures. East PA Garage Floor Coating installs floors with a foundation that truly lasts—using moisture-mitigating, 100%-solids garage floor epoxy to deliver performance you can trust in any season.
